PRINCIPLES


By the end of their education in Jesus and Mary Academy, each student will have developed those values and principles that not only enrich them personally but which will help bring about a change in their personality which will fit them in the society. Therefore, the following points are considered to be of prime importance.


Principle 1:

The Centrality of a Good and Provident God.

Objective : To develop a deep faith in God.

a) Personal and group prayer to God.

b) A deep inter-relationship with God that permeates their daily life and their contact with others.

c) Acceptance of and respect for all religions through dialogue, reading and assimilating values from different scriptures, and participating in and celebrating other festivals.

d)Deepening and broadening of their religious convictions through catechism/ moral science classes, skits, the use of audio-visual aid, panel and group discussions, etc.


Principle 2:

The Human Dignity of Each Person as an Image of God.

Objective : To develop the full potential of each student.

a) Inclusion and respect for all ethnic and religious differences: caste, creed, culture, language, gender, socio-economic status, and intellectual abilities.

b) Creating a culture of respect without distinction in all relationships.

c) Giving opportunities to students to express themselves through speaking, writing, acting, debating, dramatics, elocution, extemporaneous speeches, dance, music, and artistic activities.

d) Encouraging students in their ongoing quest for knowledge through research, reference work, field trips, and intensive study.

e) Inculcation of social virtues such as courtesy, refinement, responsibility, honesty, punctuality, obedience, loyalty diligence, generosity, and modesty.

f) Physical development through athletic exercises, sports and yoga.

g) Affirmation of each child as being acceptable, good and lovable.

h) Fostering of individual differences that enrich and strengthen others


Principle 3:

Teacher as pillars of Education.

Objective for Teachers: To be effective, charismatic instructors/conveyers of knowledge and values.

a) Living out of their vocation joyfully and vibrantly.

b) Relating to God in personal and communal prayer, drawing strength to meet all challenges.

c) Sharing the heritage through faculty/staff meetings, celebrations, and programmes.

Principle 4:

An Integrated Education for Transformation.

Objective: To make students aware of the complex realities of the world and their response to them.

a) Incorporating justice, peace and environmental issues within the curriculum.

b) Teaching critical thinking, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

c) Solving conflicts through the use of mediation, counselling, and special programmes.

d) Acquiring of the following thinking skills: observing, recording, quoting, illustrating, demonstrating, analyzing, outlining, summarising, integrating, and evaluating.

e) Developing pride in the cultural and national heritage of India.
